"Art in Hidden Places" Interviews Lu Nagata, International Pole Dancer

Japan's multi-talented performance artist and entrepreneur
shows us her pole power. "Art in Hidden Places" own Daisha Hunter, had the opportunity to swing by and interview Lu.

Photos Courtesy of Lu Nagata
Lu Nagata is the head instructor of pole dancing and teaches Palates at Japan's largest pole dance studio Art Flow. Lu has trained and performed internationally showing her acrobatic skill and body art.

Production Notes by Host Daisha Hunter

I was mesmerized by a video I viewed of Lu's performance over a year ago. I immediately went to her website to learn more about her classes offered in Tokyo. Coming from America, I viewed pole dance as a stripper art form and not the same as I would performance acrobats. I learned that this is exactly what Lu hoped to teach about the art and talent of pole dancing. She is revered as a pioneer in Asia, opening the first pole dance studio and starting her own pole distribution company. She teaches women and interested men how to be confident and sexy, while helping other dancers improve their skills.

I was honored to have my pole dancing myths dispelled by Lu and her beautiful instructors when filming this episode.

It was a pleasure and honor to interview Lisette. I have always wanted to be a dancer and she is living my dreams and beyond in this lifetime. She has a great personality and spirit.

Thanks to Gene, from Monsters of Hip Hop, for hooking us up with Lisette, while she was in Tokyo. It was a rainy night in Shinjuku, and she had just sprained her ankle, but was a soldier and came out to be guest on Art in Hidden Places.

We wish her the best of luck in her new singing career, and for it to be as successful as her dance career has been!

She's breaking through the Tokyo Music scene labeling herself as "The Most Interesting Thing on Earth!" Our very own, Daisha Hunter got an exclusive interview with Kate during a live street performance at Shibuya Crossing!

Production Notes by Host Daisha Hunter

Kate Crash is a live wreck! She is the most energetic person I've met thus far. It was a blast interviewing her at my most favorite place in the world, Shibuya Crossing. The Japanese didn't know what to do with her, especially not the police who tried to stop her from rockin' out Tokyo. Kate is a ball of life on electric Tang and we know she deserves the best in her punk cult following. Rock On!

AHP interviews Shantell Martin, Illustrator

"Art in Hidden Places" watched Shantell Martin's imagination draw live with her digital pen. Daisha Hunter interviewed to find out what being a VJ is all about.

Since graduating from London's Central Saint Martins University of Art & Design with first class honors in graphic design and illustration in 2003, Shantell Martin has been expanding conventional definitions of drawing, using it as a base from which to storm and occupy the design, fashion and music scenes. Now based in Tokyo, Martin has been a much sought-after resident and guest VJ at some of the city's most experimental club nights and has collaborated with some of the best-known names in the fashion and music industry.

Like her drawings, Martin herself seems to be in an unstoppable state of constant and conscious movement: by turn illustrator, designer, VJ, artist, videographer and more, each persona is linked by the common thread of her trademark continuous-line style, each project a further entanglement of disciplines and an exploratory step into a new world the artist creates as she moves through it.
